Kentucky Fried Chicken

‎Ever heard the name Harland Sanders?

Well.. Harland happens to be ‎the founder of this great business,( Kentucky Fried Chicken) and he achieved this at age 56, in 1952.

When he opened a small roadside restaurant he had acquired in Corbin Kentucky, little was the knowledge possessed that the front room across the petrol station he acquired, specializing in fried chicken would be a legacy.

The business has expanded from its humble origins into a global ‎super brand and is now famous for its specialty in chicken meals.

Do you know the white bearded image of its founder is known commonly as colonel sanders?

He enjoyed cooking the food his mother had taught him to make, including pan-fried chicken, fresh vegetables and home made biscuits..

He left school at the age of 12,and proved his entrepreneurial credentials by trying all manner of jobs.
His real love, came from doing what he knew best-cooking.‎
His first restaurant was a modest setting consisting of one table and six chairs.

The idea had come from conversations with his customers and his drive for success presented him the opportunity to serve food to customers who had stopped for petrol and asked if they could get good food nearby. He named his site "Sanders court & cafe" and juggled several roles including station operator, chief cook and cashier.

Word soon spread about his cuisine that the governor made him an honorary Kentucky colonel in recognition of his contributions to the states cuisine.
Customers began to turn up in droves for the food alone and that prompted him to expand bigger across the street establishing in a building that housed 142 seat as restaurant as well as a motel and a petrol station.
He went further to enroll for an eight week course in restaurant and hotel management at Cornell university to learn more about the business and forged ambitious plans to start a restaurant chain by expanding with two further sites which failed soon after they started. Although, that made him focus on improving the existing business!.‎

Important Lessons learnt

  • He had a passion-Cooking.
  • He started small
  • He was innovative and paid attention.
  • He was hardworking (juggling all three roles)
  • He was focused.

There's still a lot more to learn guys but you'll have to wait and read my next post..

Do have a Lovely weekend.
**Cheers.
