The Coke side of life....

Am sure everyone has sampled the coke side of life....

It's trademark and bright red logo can be seen all over the world. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Coca-Cola company is present in every country of the world as it has been declared the world’s most recognizable trademark and the most popular branded drink.

This amazing success story got invented by a pharmacist named John Permberton, who lived in Atlanta Georgia.

One afternoon in 1886, he was experimenting with combinations of ingredients to develop a new drink.he came up with a fragrant caramel-colored liquid which he took to a nearby pharmacy, where he added carbonated water. After testing it on customers, who all thought that was something quite special, the pharmacy started selling it as a medicine for five cents a glass.

Permberton  claimed that his new drink cured diseases including morphine addictions, headaches, dyspepsia and even impotence.

In the first year,he sold just nine glasses of coca cola in a day, which made him around 50 usd ,but it had cost him 70usd to create and advertise the drink.so he made a loss that way.

But he persevered, encouraged by the drink’s popularity with customers, convinced that he would eventually make something of it.

It was first named “Permberton’s French Wine of Cola".

The alcohol in the drink was quickly replaced by sugar to make it more appealing to drink.

It was renamed Coca-Cola by permberton’s bookkeeper,Frank Robinson. The name was derived from 2 key ingredients, from leaves-coca plant and the caffeine-rich kola nut and until 1905,the drink even contained traces of cocaine ,there for its medical effects.

Permberton’s company began to grow sales of its drink by getting other pharmacies to sell coca cola too.he ensured all the drug store that sold the drinks had the hand-painted Coca-Cola signs to help promote it.He persuaded six local business men to invest in the company to help him  finance this expansion.

Note:You see that Coca-Cola's famous advertising campaigns have their roots right at the beginning of  its history.

Later on,he placed the first newspaper adv
ert in ‘The Atlanta Journal’inviting people to try the new and popular 'soda fountain drink’

Question: What special drink have you discovered how to make?can you sell it to the world by starting with the closest people to you?

Sadly,Permberton died in 1888,and  so never saw his drink taken to the masses. The person to do this was Asa Griggs Candler, who bought the rights to the drink. It took candler, three years to secure rights to the business,as a very ill permberton had also sold rights to another business man ,and given exclusive rights to his son, which took some time to unravel….

Sorry guys but that will be all for now. Do Stay glued as I bring you the rest of it in my future post.

You are getting closer than you think......So , don't give up!

Happy Sunday.....

***Cheers
